Working as a strike nurse can be financially rewarding, but it can also be a little scary. Here are a few tips to help you stay safe when you take a position as a strike nurse.
- Travel in pairs. It’s true that there is “safety in numbers.” Always travel in pairs. You are less of a target to those striking if you are not alone.
- Avoid wearing your scrubs and your hospital ID in public when possible. You want to blend in and not be able to be singled out.
- Don’t share where you’re staying. You may become friendly with the other workers at the hospital, but they may have allegiances to the striking nurses. You don’t want to risk the striking nurses coming to where you are staying to picket.
Though it can be controversial, working as a strike nurse can be extremely rewarding.
