Being a strike nurse can be extremely rewarding financially, but working a strike contract can be stressful. Here are some tips for practicing self-care while you are working a strike nurse job.
Take care of yourself. It’s important to remember to take care of your patients, but you have to take care of yourself first. Eat healthy. Exercise. Read a book. Relax.
Sleep. When working long hours, it can be tempting to go out to unwind. However, it’s important to ensure you are getting enough sleep – and even some extra sleep to keep yourself healthy and strong.
Meditate. Regardless of which type you practice (mindfulness, spiritual, focused, movement, mantra, transcendental or any other), meditation can help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. It may also help reduce your stress and fatigue.
Laugh. Laughter relieves stress, increases the endorphins released by your brain, and aids in muscle relaxation. In short? It’s good for you – both mentally and physically.
Stay positive. Keeping a positive mental attitude helps keep you at your best to provide the care both you and your patients need!
Remember, taking care of yourself will help you function at full capacity. And that’s what your patients – and YOU – need most.
